About us

The SUSTAIN-6G project proposal (SUSTainability Advanced and Innovative Networking with 6G) has been submitted addressing the EU Horizon Europe Work Programme 2024 of the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) call HORIZON-JU-SNS-2024-STREAM-B-01-07: Sustainability Lighthouse.

This website provides a brief overview about the key SUSTAIN-6G project approach:

    • Project motivation – identified shortcomings and gaps that require a holistic perspective on sustainability in the context of 6G
    • Project objectives – the key research questions defining the project scope, and the six project objectives that have been defined to address these research questions
    • Project methodology – the way how SUSTAIN-6G will work towards achieving the set objectives and producing the desired output

The SUSTAIN-6G consortium consists of 24 partners from 10 European countries with a well-balanced share in terms of effort among leading academia (universities and a research institute), major telecommunication operators, experienced industrial partners (telecommunication and verticals), and innovative SMEs having a share of one third in the overall effort.

These partner organisations are key players in their area of expertise, and in particular they are leading contributors in the relevant standardisation and industrial fora work (such as 3GPP, ITU, ETSI, NGMN, CEMA, ORAN, CEN-CENELEC, E.DSO, GSMA, or 5G-ACIA), to ensure that the SUSTAIN-6G objectives on impacting 6G standards, the respective roadmaps, but also regulatory policies on sustainability can be achieved. Only by such impact, 6G systems will really integrate sustainability as a core asset.
