SUSTAIN-6G kicks-off its 1st EAG meeting
The project SUSTAIN-6G successfully hosted its first External Advisory Group (EAG) meeting on 19 June 2025, bringing together key experts to reflect on the progress and strategic direction of the project.
The meeting kicked-off with a cordial welcome to the newly established External Advisory Group. The project coordinator Christoph Schmelz, Nokia thanked the advisors for their engagement and introduced the purpose of the session: to exchange perspectives, validate key directions, and strengthen the strategic impact of the project.
The project agenda was introduced by the organizer and moderator of the session, Pooja Mohnani, Eurescom who opened the round of introductions, enabling each EAG member to share their background, areas of expertise and their interest in joining the advisory board of SUSTAIN-6G.
Following the introductions, the first presentation by Anastasius Gavras, Eurescom offered a concise overview of the SUSTAIN-6G project, outlining its vision, key objectives, and strategic relevance within the evolving 6G landscape.
Special focus was given to the evolution of terminology, the sustainability topic list, and the definition of key values. This was led by Marja Matinmikko-Blue, Univ. of Oulu who delved deeply into terminology definition and how it influences the Environmental, Social and Economic dimensions of Sustainability.
Two key thematic presentations were shared on:
- Sustainable 6G – focusing on the operational Sustainability: Exploring sustainability across the full lifecycle of networks and infrastructures presented by Berna Sayrac, ORANGE.
- 6G for Sustainability – Application Perspective: presented by Anastasius Gavras, Eurescom highlighting how different sectors stand to benefit from the project’s outcomes; particularly through designing 6G for sustainable outcomes, supported by relevant use cases developed within the project.
Valuable feedback from EAG members enriched the discussions and will directly impact the project’s next steps. A follow-up session is planned to continue the exchange and deepen the collaboration in Oct/Nov 2025 timeframe.
