SUSTAIN-6G presents Sustainability-by-Design at ERN 2026
CyberSocial Lab., a partner in the SUSTAIN-6G project, contributed to the first Workshop on Experimental Research on Networking (ERN 2026), held on 29 September 2026 in Rome and co-located with NoF 2026.
Luigi Briguglio delivered a keynote entitled “Sustainability-by-Design in 6G Technology”, presenting the need to embed environmental, social and economic considerations into the design of 6G technologies and use cases from the outset.
The keynote also showcased experimental research from SUSTAIN-6G, a multidisciplinary consortium of 24 partners pioneering a shift toward Sustainability-by-Design. By prioritising values and long-term impact over pure performance, SUSTAIN-6G’s approach resonated strongly with attendees, generating widespread interest and calls for public documentation to help drive broader adoption.
The workshop brought together three keynote speakers, four technical sessions and ten peer-reviewed papers, offering different perspectives on experimental networking, from deployment testbeds to design frameworks and standardisation.
SUSTAIN-6G thanks DNAC, Universitas Mercatorum, the ERN 2026 organisers, and the speakers and consortium partners for the opportunity to contribute to this discussion.
