SUSTAIN-6G Launches Website: Paving the Way for Sustainable 6G Networks

The SUSTAIN-6G project is thrilled to announce the launch of its new website. As a European SNS JU Lighthouse Project, SUSTAIN-6G is committed to building sustainable 6G networks through cutting-edge research and development, emphasizing a holistic sustainability approach across six key objectives.

Project Mission and Scope

SUSTAIN-6G is dedicated to driving innovation in sustainable 6G technologies by focusing on the following core objectives:

  1. Understanding the 6G Technology Landscape
    • SUSTAIN-6G will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the current 6G landscape, assessing the latest advancements in relevant technologies and applications.
    • The project will create an inventory of state-of-the-art (SotA) approaches, key performance indicators (KPIs), and sustainability metrics essential for 6G development.
  2. Defining and Assessing Sustainability Goals
    • With a focus on stakeholder needs, SUSTAIN-6G will define sustainability goals, values, and indicators to inform the 6G development process.
    • Advanced methodologies will be developed to measure and enhance the sustainability of network operations and technologies.
  3. Integrating 6G with Vertical Use Cases (UCs)
    • SUSTAIN-6G will explore the integration of 6G with vertical use cases, aiming to reduce environmental impacts by optimizing network functionality and efficiency across sectors.
  4. Developing a Sustainability Management Plane (SMP)
    • An SMP will be created to enable an end-to-end, sustainability-driven operational model, harmonizing network and vertical operations with sustainability targets.
  5. Validating and Demonstrating 6G Sustainability
    • Through practical demonstrations, SUSTAIN-6G will validate the sustainability benefits of 6G technologies, showcasing how they can positively impact both ecological and operational aspects.
  6. Creating a Strategic Roadmap for 6G Sustainability
    • The project will deliver best practices, guidelines, and a strategic roadmap that includes standardization and regulation insights, guiding 6G development towards a sustainability-focused future.

Future Impact

The outcomes of SUSTAIN-6G aim to serve as a cornerstone for 6G innovation, fostering responsible technological advancements with tangible benefits for society and the environment. By exploring and setting the standards for sustainable practices, the project envisions a future where 6G networks contribute to responsible innovation and environmental stewardship.
